Weddings are always a difficult thing to arrange, no matter what the size. Even if you are simply having friends and family that number in the low double digits you will find there is always some kind of problem. It might be that Great Uncle Irving hasn’t spoken to your cousin Jenny since that time they went fishing together back around the time of the Vietnam War.
It might be that a whole contingent of nephews has converted to vegetarianism and are on a restricted diet. Whatever the reason for pulling out your hair as you plan this shindig of love and happiness, there are some foolproof ways to keep everyone happy and the wedding party on budget and on time. Here are a few ideas we have found have been useful in our time helping brides plan that all important day.
Mix and Mingle
If you have a lot of guests who have come a long way to celebrate this day with you, make sure in your plans that this is exactly what you are doing. Instead of a long and frankly boring wedding ceremony, shift some of that time to spending it with guests. You might plan a guest dinner that includes time at each table or be sure to include a variety of music at the reception to honor all your guests. While you may want to have a formal line for greeting guests, you can also spark it up by adding oversized wedding sparklers from Sparklers Online to give some extra glow to that reception for everyone.
Wedding Apps and Tags
Today we all love to post our lives online at our favorite social media sites, so be sure to include your wedding tags. It can be something simple like #StevenandEmilyWedding so that everyone can share the moments. The best way to do this is to either note it on your personalized wedding program that you hand out (another great idea) or to post a few signs. We have used little chalkboards that you can pick up at dollar stores for something like this.
Out of Towners Get Welcomed
If you are having one of those big weddings where you have plenty of out of town guests, make them feel welcomed. Let them know you appreciate their taking the time to come out to your celebration by leaving a little basket of goodies in their rooms. It is a small gesture that goes a long way to helping a harried guest who may be tired from the trip to feel more relaxed and welcomed.
Open Bars and Arms
One thing we can all agree on is that a wedding with a well-stocked open bar is one that is going to have some happy guests. That is why you always need to spend a bit of time thinking about what your guests may want to drink and making sure you have more than Two Buck Chuck on the wine list. Oh – and don’t forget the hugs. Everyone comes to celebrate with you, so make sure that everyone gets at least one or two hugs during this special day. And yes, that includes Cousin Ernie that never seems to bathe. He still needs to get that hug from you.
